Durkan’s Technical Installation Support Department is available for your assistance. Before or during installation, if

any problems occur, or if you have any questions, please call 800-833-6954. Durkan highly recommends the use of

a Durkan Certified Installer.

Please Note: The use of Mohawk branded adhesives are required to ensure optimum results and are the only

approved adhesives that Mohawk Industries will warrant. Failure to use Mohawk branded adhesives can result in

warranties being null and void.

GENERAL INFORMATION

ROLL IDENTIFICATION FOR CORRIDORS, CARPET-TO-FIT AND UNIFIT

Each roll of carpet you receive will be identified on the roll and plastic as follows:

Order number • Roll number • Size of the roll • Comp number • Contents of the roll

A set of installation instructions will be enclosed in the roll, which is wrapped in RED PLASTIC, with INSTALLATION

INSTRUCTIONS ENCLOSED printed in white letters. The installation instructions include the seaming diagram

and the roll layout. The seaming diagram will indicate the placement of each rug and the location of the

seams. In some cases, it may be necessary for mill seams and additional field seams. All known seams will be indicated

on the seaming diagram. A packing list will be attached to the first roll on each order. The packing list will

include a copy of the bill of lading and other important information.

ROLL SEQUENCE FOR BROADLOOM

• Durkan Print

Sequence numbers are placed on each roll. These numbers are in the order in which they are printed.

Durkan recommends following these sequence numbers, however, if the rolls need to be arranged

differently in order to ensure a better pattern match, this is an option.

• Durkan CYP

Easy way to determine roll sequence is to begin with the smallest roll number and work to the largest

roll number or vice versa. Pattern repeat lengths should be measured to determine roll placements.

Example: 3’ pattern match

Drop “A”: 10 patterns measure 30’ 1”

Drop “B”: 10 patterns measure 30’ 2”

Drop “C”: 10 patterns measure 30’

Drop “D”: 10 patterns measure 29’ 11”

The proper roll placement in this example is: “D”, “C”, “A”, “B”

If this procedure is followed, this will minimize the variation that must be dealt with for one seam. Always begin

the installation with the longest pattern repeat gradually working down to the shortest. Since synthetic carpet is

difficult to shrink; stretch the short pattern side to meet the long pattern side to achieve a proper match. Where

pattern match is involved, sufficient carpet must be allowed on each cut for the match.

Align the patter ns in the center of each breadth. Check the bo w and skew .

If the patter n r un-off is more than one half inch in tw el ve f eet, pre-stretch

the car pet using a deadman and po w er stretcher s (See f igure r ight).

This procedure is done before an y adhesiv e is applied. Stretch in ten to

tw elv e f eet increments at a tim e. If the patter n needs stretching one half inch

in tw elv e f eet, stretch car pet one inch in tw elv e f eet. After the stretcher s are

remo v ed, some of the stretch will slip back, but not the entire stretch. At this

time , the installer will be ab le to deter mine the amount of stretch the car pet

will require to achiev e the patter n match, after the adhesiv e has been applied.

After the patter n has been dr y laid , m ake sure that each section of car pet

7 Installation Guidelines – Print/CYP

Borders and corner patterns require splitting the roll exactly at the cut lines using a straight edge and cushion back

cutter. The patterns may have shifted from side to side slightly during the printing process; therefore, the tufted roll

will not follow the patterns. Some corners print individually and some corners print in groups of two, and groups

of four.

The corners are printed inside the border roll usually in the middle of the roll (See figure A).

Po sition the border s and cor ner s against the f ield. Fold back half of the border , and spread the adhesiv e on the

floor . Before mo ving the border into place on the floor , apply seam sealer to the fi eld and then la y the border into

the adhesiv e.

P osition the cor ner into place after applying seam sealer to one side of each the of seams. The mini-stretcher (cr ab)

and the knee kicker should be used to mo ve the border and cor ner into an exact patter n match. A tr actor can be

used to ensure a smooth and secure seam. Sta y nails ma y ha ve to be used to secure patter n match until the adhe -

siv e takes hold.
